As part of the Shigeru Kawai Concert Series, the Oxford Union Society is delighted to host a piano recital with renowned pianist Lara Melda, showcasing a celebration of treasured masterpieces by Beethoven and Chopin.
Lara Melda first captured international attention in 2010 when she won the BBC Young Musician competition, delivering a thrilling performance of Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with Vasily Petrenko and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff. Since then, she has performed with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on numerous occasions, including notable renditions of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K466 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
Lara made her BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall in 2018, performing alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Andrew Gourlay as part of a celebration of previous Young Musician winners. Most recently, Lara has been working closely with the Carducci Quartet, performing Chopin’s Piano Concerti in innovative piano quintet arrangements, bringing a fresh perspective to these beloved works.
Before the piano recital, there will be an opportunity to meet Lara during an informal drinks reception. Please take this opportunity to join us, reconnect with the Union and enjoy some wonderful classical music in our historic premises!
