Dear Alumni members,
As you may know, 2023 marked our 200th year of debating and we celebrated our Bicentenary milestone with great success. Our Alumni were always at the heart of these celebrations. Now, one year after our Bicentenary we are holding an Alumni Gala debate during the Alumni weekend for many Oxford colleges.
As part of this event, we will be hosting an Alumni Gala debate on the topic:
(THB) That the Monarchy should be sacked, Buckingham Palace given to the homeless,
and the corgis put to productive work
Inspired by the legendary 1969 debate held in the Union between the Royal Military College of Canada and members of the Oxford Union, we’re tackling the monarchy with a humorous twist. We reconvene to debate this crucial question: should Buckingham Palace become a royal homeless shelter and the corgis earn their kibble by fetching tea and scones? Join us for a night full of laughter and appreciation for the good old days, where you will have the chance to reconnect with some old faces and meet new ones.
Partners and children are most welcome for this event; they would be happy to see what was, without doubt, a big part of your life at Oxford.
Pre-Debate Drinks at 19:15
Debate starts at 20:00
